After the conclusion of area play, head coach Fred Lowery used Thursday night’s game as a way to ease into the area tournament. Bree Griffin is battling a leg injury and Lowery wanted to give her some rest heading into the area tournament.

Despite the leg injury and limited time, Griffin led the team with 25 points. Harmony Robinson finished with 5 points, while JaMecia Berry and Anastasia Mallard had 4.

It was a tight opening quarter that saw the Eagles gain a slim 11-9 lead after Griffin scored her first nine points.

Going into halftime, the Eagles lead stretched to 6 at 19-13. Robinson and Berry each scored a basket while Griffin knocked down a 3-pointer.

Highland Home came out and took the lead in the third quarter when they outscored the Eagles 17-6. Highland Home went into the fourth quarter holding a 30-25 lead.

Griffin scored 11 points in the final quarter to help the Eagles take and hold on to the lead.

The Eagles will begin the area tournament on February 6 when they take on top-seeded Central Haynevile. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
