Area Softball: Local teams compete at Ariton Softball Tournament

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots (7-11) earned a 6-2 win over the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans on Saturday in the Ariton Lady Purple Cat Tournament.

Julianne Meyer, Mary Stephens and Riley Burkett each went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run. Alissa Barron got the win in the circle with nine strikeouts, while giving up seven hits and one earned run in six innings pitched.

For Charles Henderson, Jada Jones went 2-for-3 with a run, while Molly Garrett pitched six innings and fanned three batters, while giving up eight hits and one earned run.

Pike closed out its tournament appearance with an 11-1 loss to Ariton on Saturday. For Pike, Haylie Brown went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run. Mary Stephens struck out one batter and gave up four hits and five earned runs in one and 1/3 innings pitched.

For Ariton, Beth Dixon went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, while Caitlyn Webb went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Lizzy Faircloth went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, five RBIs and one run. Sydney Adams struck out four batters and gave up four hits and one earned run in one inning in the circle.

On Friday, Ariton shutout Goshen by a score of 21-0. Dixon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, while Macileigh Bragg went 2-for-4 with a home run, six RBIs and two runs. Faircloth earned four RBIs at the plate, while also striking out five batters and giving up two hits and no runs in three innings pitched.

For Goshen, Jayci Rushing and Emalie Tranum each earned one hit.

Ariton followed up with an 8-3 win over Charles Henderson. Bragg went 1-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs and a run. Dixon pitched four innings and struck out six, while giving up two hits and no earned runs.

For CHHS, Calleigh Compton went 1-for-2 with a run. Janazia Cantlow struck out three batters and gave up two hits and three earned runs in one and 1/3 innings pitched.

Ariton wrapped up tournament play with a 2-1 loss to Slocomb on Saturday. Dixon went 1-for-3 with a double. She also pitched five and 2/3 innings and fanned a pair of batters, while giving up five hits and two earned runs.

On Friday, Charles Henderson earned a 15-5 win over Geneva County. Jones went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and three runs. Cantlow went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Cantlow pitched two innings and struck out two batters, while giving up three hits and one earned run.
