Area Baseball: Goshen upends Pike County, Ariton wins fourth straight

The Goshen Eagles earned an 11-1 win over the Pike County Bulldogs on April 8.

Cade Edwards had a big day at the plate for Goshen, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs. Tyler McLendon also went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases and three runs. Tristen Drinkard scored two runs. McLendon pitched all five innings and struck out nine batters, while giving up no hits and one earned run.

Ben Patterson scored Pike County’s lone run of the day. Omari Barrow pitched three innings and fanned five batters, while giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Mark Griffin struck out one and gave up one hit and no earned runs in one and 2/3 innings pitched for the Bulldogs.

The Ariton Purple Cats thrashed the Brantley Bulldogs by a score of 14-0 on April 8 to earn their fourth win in a row.

For Ariton, Hughes Hammock went 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBIs, and two runs, while Myles Tyler went 1-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and two runs. Aven Cook scored three runs and Caden Collier scored two runs. Lawson Leger earned the win on the mound, pitching two and 1/3 innings and giving up no hits or runs with a strikeout. Austin Evans struck out two batters and gave up three hits with no runs in one and 2/3 innings.

The Zion Chapel rebels earned a 13-3 win over Highland Home on April 8. Macon Allen went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs, while Wes Braisted scored three runs and earned a double. Brady Flowers hit a triple, as well. Flowers pitched all six innings and struck out five, while giving up five hits and two earned runs.

The Rebels followed that up with a 6-2 loss to Brantley on April 9. Austin Jordan, Braisted and Flowers each tallied two hits, while Flowers and Braisted score one run each. Jordan pitched four innings and gave up three hits and three earned runs with one strikeout. Braisted struck out two batters in two innings pitched, giving up one hit and one earned run.
