“My girls like to fight. That was a battle all the way through. Straughn has a great team,” said Eagles head coach Amy Warrick. “They love to fight and they don’t give. Not one of them gave up and all three of them were in a battle tonight.”

After the junior high took care of the Tigers to begin the night, the JV Eagles were in a dogfight from the opening serve. The Tigers took game one after a furious comeback attempt by the Eagles fell short. The Eagles battled back and claimed the next two to get the win.

Kate Warrick finished the match with 25 assists. Hannah Calhoun picked up 12 digs while Lydia Harrison finished with 10 kills and two blocks.

Perhaps the most intense match of the night finished in a clean sweep for the varsity Eagles. Goshen took game one with relative ease after leading for the majority of the time. Match two got a little more difficult for coach Warrick and the Eagles.

The Tigers held the lead through out the first half of game two and it wasn’t until Goshen was down 21-18 that they finally made their move. The Eagles closed out the game outscoring the Tigers 7-2 handing them the 2-0 advantage.

The Tigers flipped the tables in game three. With the Eagles in drivers seat and staring match point in the face by being up 24-17, the Tigers scored seven straight points to tie the game to tie the game up at 24. After both teams traded points the Eagles finally broke through and walked away with the 26-24 win.

Selena Ellis finished the match with 15 digs while Lexi Ellisor led the team with 22. Casey Allen finished the night with 15 kills, four blocks, 5 digs and one ace.

Kati Thomas also had a good night; she finished with 21 kills, five blocks, two aces and three digs.

Carmen Kelly closed out the scoring 37 assists.

Warrick hopes the determination and the hard work form Thursday nights win will carry over for the rest of the season.

“They have always been a bunch of fighters,” Warrick said. “They have been fighters every since I had these children in the seventh grade. If there is one thing that I could tell this team knows how to do is fight.”
