It was a good weekend for the Troy tournament soccer teams as several team qualified for the state competition thanks to their play in District Tournaments.

While the teams may have been spread out around the state, the result was the same.

In Troy, the 13-and-under team took on Andalusia and Eufaula, and outscored the two opponents 12-0, as the Ken Labrant led Troy team cruised to a spot in Dothan.

“I thought our guys played very well,” head coach Ken Labrant said after the championship win Saturday at the Troy Sportsplex.

“I think this win says a lot about both our offense and defense. We did a good job of making crisp passes and our defense never really allowed (Eufaula) over midfield. They guys are getting a long great, they are all friendly with each other on the field and they aren’t selfish. That’s the kind of team play you want to see going into state.”

In the games, Jack Labrant led all scorers with four goals, while both Ben Salmon and Baylor Barnes finished with two goals a piece and Taylor Montgomery, Daniel Macias, Rhett Outlaw and Reilly Fox all scored once.

In Andalusia, the Troy 11-and-under team also had a dominating performance against Ozark, Ft. Rucker and Eufaula.

In first round action, Troy took Ozark, 2-1 thanks to goals from Michael Jenelle and X’Zavieyan.

In the next round, Ft. Rucker suffered the same fate as Ozark, falling 4-1, as Dawson Hamlin scored twice and D.J. Brooks and Clay Labrant scored one a piece.

In the championship round, Troy defeated Eufaula, 2-1 thanks to a Hamlin penalty kick, after Eufaula was called for a handball inside the goal box.

The State Tournament will begin in Dothan on Nov. 20 and run through Nov. 21 at the Westgate Park Recreation Center.

Joining those two teams are also the 9-and-under boys, the 11-and-under girls, the 15-and-under and 18-and-under boys.
