With the baseball season now concluded at Goshen High School, football takes center stage as coach Bart Snyder’s Eagles hit the field for spring practice.

The Eagles finished the 2016 season with a 8-4 record and a trip to the second round of the playoffs.

“The guys are working extremely hard,” Snyder said. “We had a good offseason that we dedicated to getting better.”

The Eagles will spend the next few weeks practicing for the upcoming season. Their spring schedule will conclude on May 11 when they take on Reeltown in a spring jamboree at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Troy.

The Eagles made the postseason for the ninth consecutive time last year and that excitement level has carried over into 2017.

“They are very excited,” Snyder said. “They made it to the first round last year. They are trying to continue that success of making it to the playoffs. It starts right here in the spring. There is a lot of excitement and we want to see where they can get.”

Last year the Eagles leaned heavily on a running attack that was led by Damion Passmore, Zack Alford, DaQuan Foster and Cory Peterson. All four backs will be back and Snyder expects a similar result to last year.

“They will be more familiar with what is expected of them,” Snyder said. “They come out here and they know what they are doing. They are bouncing around and getting things done.”

Brock Snyder enters the spring as the starting quarterback in what will be the second season in a row. They key for the senior is to not make mistakes.

“He can’t mistakes,” Snyder said. “He needs to be a positive leader on the field and that is what we expect him to do. He has more overall knowledge of the game and he is getting people in the positions they need to be in on the field.”
The Eagles will do a lot of drills over the next few weeks. In week one the Eagles have been in helmets and next week they will transition into full pads to begin getting ready for Reeltown.

“I like the fundamental aspect of spring and making sure we are understanding and teaching,” Snyder said. “That is why we were farther along last year. We were ahead of ourselves and we are seeing that same momentum right here.”
