The Pike County Chamber of Commerce Business Development Committee will share pathways to success for local students and business leaders on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

“This will be an informational session for anyone who would like to come – employers parents students, anyone who would like to come learn about work-based learning,” said Dana Sanders, Chamber president. “That includes on-the-job training, apprenticeships, internships and many other avenues.”

The breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5 at the Troy Recreation Center. The panel will begin at approximately 8 a.m.

Bobby Jon Drinkard of AIDT will be facilitating the panel session, asking questions of the panelists about paths to success in the Pike County workforce.

Brock Kelley, former principal of Charles Henderson High School, now leads workforce development for the Alabama Department of Education. He explained the importance of this meeting for both business leaders and young professionals.

“We want to provide information for business and industry leaders within Pike County on how to access the students of Pike County and a young workforce,” Kelley said. “We want to give an array of options to make businesses aware of the resources that are out there and contacts they can use to help make a pipeline within Pike County from the K-12 system and community college system. Parents can also ultimately come and find out how students can access these programs within the K-12 environment so that they could possibly set their child up for the possibility of having an apprenticeship and having school paid for.

“We want businesses, parents and students to know the programs that are out there to provide a workforce and help kids gain employment, keep employment and get postsecondary training or education paid for.”

The breakfast is free and open to the public, but Sanders asked that anyone planning to attend RSVP so that an adequate breakfast may be prepared.
