Senior Spotlight: Whitney Gholston of Pike County High School

The Messenger will be doing a Senior Spotlight on a student from each high school in The Messenger’s coverage area. 

Pike County High School senior Whitney Gholston has raked in a number of scholarships during her high school career.

Gholston is the recipient of the AKA Book Scholarship, a $32,000 scholarship from the University of Alabama, $12,000 scholarship from the University of South Alabama and $20,000 scholarship from Alabama A&M University. She’s also won a $2,000 scholarship from the Brundidge Rotary Club. Gholston also received the Timothy McSwain Memorial Scholarship.

Gholston is a former varsity cheerleader at PCHS and also is a member of the National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, a Power South Youth Tour Participant, Art Club member and Interact Club Secretary. She also participated in the University of Alabama’s Minority Health Program and is a dual enrollment student at Troy University. Gholston also won the Miss Brundidge Pageant in 2023.

Gholston plans to attend the University of Alabama, where she intends to become a postpartum nurse.

“I want to be able to support mothers and babies,” Gholston said. “After working as a postpartum nurse for years, I want to get a Master’s of Nursing Degree, so I can work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to help sick babies.”
