Troy man fatally stabbed

A fatal stabbing in Troy Friday night will be presented to an upcoming grand jury session according to police.

Troy police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of John Lewis Drive Friday at approximately 8 p.m. and found Astin Renard Williams, 37, of Troy, with a stab wound to his left side near his chest.

“Officers cleared the residence and began CPR on Williams until medics from the Troy Fire Department arrived and took over resuscitation efforts,” said Troy Police Chief Randall Barr. “The fire medics continued to render aid until Haynes Ambulance personnel arrived and transported Williams to Troy Regional Medical Center. Williams succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the emergency room.”

Barr said a suspect has been identified and the facts of the case have been presented to the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, which will present the case to a grand jury at a later date. No arrest has been made at this time.

The case remains under investigation by the Troy Police Department, the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, the Pike County Coroner’s Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
