Pike County’s girls’ volleyball team will be taking the hardwood tonight against the Goshen Eagles.

Pike County is hoping to capitalize on its momentum after a big region win over Barbour County on Tuesday.

Though the Bulldogs will be lining up against their cross-county rival, coach Karie Striplin is not looking ahead to the matchup. “We haven’t been worried about our opponent,” Striplan said. “We’re focusing on getting better at the moment. We need to communicate more and be more aggressive.”

The Bulldogs will face a stiff test in the Goshen Eagles who are undefeated on the season. Striplin has a young team, but she views this as one of her team’s strengths. “Our youth is our strength. We’re getting better now, and, in the next few years, we can build something really special,” Striplin said.

Despite the “friendly rivalry,” coach Striplin still had high praise for the Eagles. “We hope get to the level of Goshen soon. We would like to replicate their athletic success.”

Goshen is 4-0 early in the 2013 season, but is not letting the fast start get to their heads.

Lady Eagle head coach Amy Warrick said that her team will take each game one at a time.

“We are not going to allow ourselves to overlook anything,” Warrick said. “We know that any team can catch you on any day. We have long-term goals, but we will take it one game at a time until those goals are reached.”

The game is set for 4:30 pm in Brundidge.
