GOSHEN – The Goshen Eagles led by as many as 11 points in the first half of Tuesday night’s 46-45 win over Highland Home. The Eagles watched, however, as that lead slowly slipped away.

Highland Home took its first lead of the game, 37-35 with 1:27 remaining in the third quarter. Goshen quickly re-tied the game and Deangelo Orum gave the Eagles the lead for good with an offensive rebound and lay in.

Goshen (2-5) would go on a 11-2 run in the fourth quarter to pull away, 46-39.

Highland Home used costly Eagle turnovers which led to the Flying Squadron scoring the game’s final six points to stay within striking distance.

Goshen started off with a hot shooting hand. Orum drilled a three-pointer just second into the game. Qua Simmons added another to put the Eagles ahead 6-2.

Three’s by Orum and Jamarius McIntyre put Goshen up 18-6 late in the opening period.

Orum continued to carry the Eagles in the second quarter scoring eight of the team’s 13 points. Orum would finish with a game-high 19 points for the game.

Highland Home owed the third quarter outscoring Goshen 14-8 with four of the Eagles points coming in the final seconds of the frame.

Trying to speed up the clock, Goshen held the ball the majority of the fourth quarter losing it occasionally due to increased pressure from Highland Home’s defense.

Simmons would finish with 10 points for the Eagles.

Goshen made good from it long-range shots making six three-point field goals for the game.

The Eagles only went to the free-throw line three times on the night making four of six shots. Highland Home used the charity stripe to its advantage making 12 of 16 of its free throws.

Goshen will return to action on Thursday as the team travels to take on Opp.

The Eagles next home game will be on Dec. 17 as Providence pays them a visit.
