The Goshen Lady Eagles volleyball team completed the Wallace Team Camp at Wallace Hanceville on Wednesday afternoon.

The varsity participated in pool play on Monday and Tuesday before beginning the elimination rounds on Wednesday. The tournament came to an end for the Eagles when they fell to Priceville.

“This was great for us,” said Eagles head coach Amy Warrick. “We have had some kids up here that have never gone with us before. We had to figure out rotations, but we saw a lot of good things. It was exciting to put a new team on the court.”

This was the sixth year that the Eagles have participated in this camp and in years past the Eagles have used this camp as a springboard to success in the regular season.

“This is what we really took our volleyball team to that next level and helped us make it to the finals,” Warrick said. “It’s so important because we got 11 games in today (Wednesday) and we got playing time against northern teams who we never see.

“It’s great competition,” Warrick said. “For me, I couldn’t see us doing it without this camp.”

The biggest advantage this tournament gives the Eagles is the ability to play meaningful games in advance of the regular season.

“This gives us more practice,” Warrick said. “When you have a young team you need all the playing time that we can get. We have a lot of kids that don’t play travel ball so this is the only time they have a chance to play volleyball.”

During the camp Warrick got to know a little more about what kind of team she will be working with in the fall.

“They are a scrappy little bunch,” Warrick said. “They have a will to win and they don’t give up. We have a lot of work we still need to do. It showed us that we have some things that we need to work on and it also showed me that they have a great spirit and that they are very determined.”

The Eagles will play in a tournament this weekend in Enterprise before they officially begin fall camp on August 1.
