The Goshen Eagles (3-2, 2-1) will return to Class 2A, Region 3 action this Friday, Oct. 4, as the Barbour County Jaguars (0-4, 0-2) come to town.
Goshen is coming off 48-34 loss to Elba in a non-region thriller last week.
“We challenged our guys after the Highland Home game to go out and compete for four quarters and they did that (against Elba),” Goshen Coach Don Moore said. “I’m super proud of the effort and competitiveness we played with. We just did some things that hurt us in the long run, like turnovers and penalties.”
Goshen put up 315 yards of offense against Elba with 283 yards on the ground. The Eagles, through, turned the ball over three times and were penalized six times.
Goshen quarterback Jayden McNabb threw for 32 yards and also rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
The Jaguars are coming off a 68-6 loss to Abbeville last week. So far this season, Barbour County has been outscored 226-24 in four games. While Barbour County is winless on the season, Moore said the Jaguars boast the type of athletes that can cause any team problems.
“They’re fast and athletic,” he flatly said. “We have to do a really good job of tackling in space. We’re working on that and continuing to work on (tackling) every day. If we don’t do our job and they get the ball in their hands and we miss a tackle they can take it to the house for a touchdown. We have to do a good job of tackling in space and being physical.”
Goshen and Barbour County have met a total of eight times in the past with the Eagles holding an 8-0 record in the series, including a 41-0 win last season.
Goshen hosts Barbour County at 7 p.m. on Friday night in Goshen.
