There’s a new option for those wanting to get fit in Troy, and it’s just in time to satisfy some new years resolutions.
Anytime Fitness has muscled its way into the Southland Village shopping center next to the Tractor Supply Store in Troy.
The tinted doors of Anytime Fitness opened on Wednesday, and for the already 200 plus members of the fitness center, they wont be closing anytime soon.
“Anytime Fitness is a 24-hour fitness center,” said Beverly Clark, gym manager.
The gym is one of more than 1,500 locations of the Anytime Fitness health club franchise in the United States, and while the name does well to describe its hours of operation, it does little justice in describing the services it offers.
“We offer cardio machines, free weights and 24-hour access to tanning beds,” Clark said.
“Starting in February we’ll be offering spa treatments and massage therapy ,and we’re going to offer Yoga classes, Pilates and Zumba.”
Zumba is a recent rage that combines dancing with fitness.
“Zumba is like Dancing With The Stars,” Clark said.
“You’ve got the belly dancing, reggae, and salsa, and you take all those dance steps and put them in a routine.”
For members needing help with their rhythm, Anytime Fitness employs a knowledgeable staff to instruct their variety of classes.
“All of our instructors are certified and right now we’ve got two personal trainers hired,” Clark said. “Also we have someone here from eight to eight everyday who can set someone up on a diet plan and a workout plan.”
For those who can’t make it to the gym during the daylight hours or prefer to burn the midnight oil with a little bit of sweat, Clark said that Anytime Fitness is an ideal place to do it.
“With it being in a good location and in a well-lit area I think people will feel safe coming here,” she said.
No matter what time of the day or night members choose to shed pounds, they can do so without losing too much weight in their wallets.
“We have a special rate going for $29.95 per month and that includes free tanning,” Clark said. “If you can see us before Monday the 25th you can get a discounted price of $26.95, or if you sign up a group of five or more it’s $20.95 each. The reason our prices are so low is because we’re a franchise.”
One member agreed that Anytime Fitness prices were fair, especially considering the equipment available.
“All their stuff is really nice and their prices are really low,” said 17-year-old Jessica Blackwell between breaths on a new elliptical machine with that just-out-of-the-box exercise machine smell.
“We have brand new state of the art equipment and all the cardio machines have their own flat screen televisions,” Clark said.
“It’s a very clean environment too.”
Clark hopes to sign up at least 1,000 members from the area and anticipates out of town visitors dropping in as well.
“When you’re a member of anytime fitness you can use any of the 1,500 centers around the U.S.” she said.
