Back in town

Guthries may have the same look, same building and even the same taste as Troy residents remember, but it’s not all the same.

Mike and Jason Sims are the new father-son tag team that took it upon themselves to bring Guthries in Troy back to life.

The store opened May 14, and this time, Jason said, it’s here to stay.

“It’s a great business with great food. This branch was just under the wrong guidance.” Jason said.

Mike Sims, who is a vice president in the Guthries corporation, has had more then 30 years of restaurant experience.

“If any one can bring back and keep this restaurant going, it’s my father.” Jason said.

Jason said opening a business during these economic conditions may seem strange, but for the Guthries franchise things are looking up.

“The Guthries restaurant chain is growing instead of closing” Jason said. “This has given us a chance to bring more jobs to Troy, as well as many other places. So, we must be doing something right.”

Besides having the same “good food,” Jason said there are new items as well.

Ranging from fried chicken salads to apple pies, Jason said. Guthries has something for everyone.

The new Guthries owners have also added to the menu.

“We have added some delicious wings to the menu, and the sauce comes in hot, mild and barbecue,” Jason said.

The store’s grand opening will be Friday.

“We are going to try to provide activities for the entire family to enjoy,” Jason said.

“Guthries wants everyone to know that we are back and here to stay and will provide good food and good service.”
