Walking into The Locker Room, it is immediately clear that you have stepped into Trojan country.
Troy’s newest sports bar and grill, set to open it’s door at 5 p.m. today, is decked wall to wall in Troy University memorabilia.
“Most of it is from my personal collection,” said manager Charles Hester, a native of Andalusia. “I’ve been going to Troy football games since I was 10 years-old.”
From a framed Larry Blakeney collector card from the coach’s early days at Auburn, to an autographed New Orleans Bowl football, the memorabilia on display runs the gambit of Trojan football history.
“Troy didn’t really have a restaurant that was dedicated to Troy University,” Hester said.
The Locker Room aims to fill that niche and Hester said the restaurant management and staff is excited to be open for Homecoming weekend.
“We want the alumni to come by and see what we’ve done and see that we celebrate Troy University,” Hester said.
The Locker Room will be open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., but will stay open “until” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, Hester said.
The menu will include wings and grill favorites like steak and kabobs.
Hester said the restaurant will run nightly drink specials after 8 p.m.
Flat screen televisions and video game consoles will provide entertainment for patrons.
“We’re trying to provide a place that is fun for families to come and eat dinner and also will be enjoyable for students,” Hester said.
