The Goshen girls weathered a late Zion Chapel 12-0 run to defeat the Rebels, 47-33 Friday night in Goshen.

The Lady Eagles were led by Bre Griffin, who scored a game-high 27 points. Shyanne Tillery also chipped in, scoring nine points for Goshen.

Goshen began the game cold from the field, missing its first four shots while falling behind 2-0 to Zion Chapel. It was the lone time Goshen trailed in the game.

The Lady Eagles then went to the full-court press, creating three-straight turnovers as they orchestrated a 14-0 run lasting early into the second quarter.

“Just a great effort, and they (Goshen) were very energized,” said Goshen coach Major Lane. “We believe in trying to condition ourselves and play a pressure style of defense and they did a good job of that.”

Zion Chapel was able to put together some offense in the second quarter, trading baskets back and forth with Goshen, but the Lady Eagles held serve, going into halftime up 30-17.

After the break, Goshen’s defense clamped down on Zion Chapel, allowing the Rebels just three points in the third quarter.

In that time, Griffin went off, leading Goshen with nine points in the third quarter before exiting the game.

But Zion Chapel didn’t go quietly in the fourth quarter.

The Rebels opened the final period with a 12-0 run, forcing Lane to insert Griffin back into the game where she immediately broke the Rebels’ run with her final basket of the night, a layup with under two minutes to play.
