Goshen falls to Elba 13-2 in area contest

All Goshen head coach Robby Kinsaul could do Thursday afternoon was tip his hat to Elba, and get ready to play again.

Elba pounded out nine hits, including six for extra bases, in a 13-2 area win over the Eagles.

“They just put the bat on the ball and found gaps with it,” said Kinsaul. “There is no doubt about that. We just have to find some luck sometime this year. I feel like we played a much better ball game today defensively than we have been playing. It’s just baseball. Some days you can’t do anything wrong, and other days it seems as if nothing goes your way.

Elba went to the whip in the first inning, turning a single, double and triple in two three runs.

Goshen responded in the bottom of the first with a RBI double from Bryant Stephens, scoring Tyler Phillips.

Elba would pick up two runs in the third, two more in the fourth and five in the fifth to ease away with the area win.

Goshen’s other run came in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout by J.P. Steele.

The Eagles will face a short turnaround, as they will see the very same Elba team on Friday.

Goshen will travel to the “City of Flowing Wells” for the back end of the area series looking to force the double-header, and a tiebreaker third game.

“We just have to limit our mistakes, like we did today,” said Kinsaul. “We also have to take advantage of what mistakes the other team makes. If we do that, there is no doubt in my mind that we can come all the way back and win two games tomorrow.”
