On Friday the Goshen Eagles earned their first win of the season in dominant fashion with a 10-0 shutout at home against the Pike County Bulldogs.

The win started from the mound for the Eagles with picther Katie Thomas who threw a no-hitter in five innings of work along with five strikeouts. Behind the arm of Thomas Goshen was able to prevent the Bulldogs from getting to the fourth batter in the lineup in all but one inning.

On offense the Eagles didn’t disappoint either in route to 13 hits on the afternoon.

After allowing four runs in the first inning Pike County was able to force a quick three-out’s in the second, however Goshen would return the favor in the top of the third followed by another four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Thomas would finish the day 2-3 from the plate with two RBI’s and a stolen base, teammate Lizzie Galloway hit 3-3 on the day with an RBI and Casey Allen sent in a pair of RBI’s as well.

Head softball coach Amy Warrick was impressed by her team’s play against a much-improved Pike County team.

“I thought we came out today and played really well,” Warrick said. “Katie pitched great but I hate to name just one person because it was a team effort today and everyone did a great job.”

Warrick also mentioned that she was very happy with her teams attitude and enthusiasm, and thinks that it played a big part on their ability to get hits against the Bulldogs.

Now with a win under their belt, Goshen has a quick turnaround and will begin pool play in the Trojan Classic against Houston Academy on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The classic will be hosted by Charles Henderson High School and will take place at the Troy Sportsplex.
