There’s not much, if anything, that a nickel can buy these days but five bucks will make a day at Terra Cotta in Troy on Saturday.

For a mimimum donation of only $5 each, adults can spend from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Terra Cotta Fall and Harvest Open House and the children can come along for free.

The open house will usher in the holiday season in grand style and the admission charges will benefit the “Make a Wish Foundation.”

“(Terra Cotta owner) Bryant Smith has wanted to host a fundraiser for ‘Make a Wish’ for about two years but there is a ton of paperwork that has to be done to be eligible,” said Nancy Harrell, interior coordinator/designer. “The Foundation wants to be certain that an event is a legitimate fundraiser before permission is granted. And, that’s the way it should be.”

Harrell said there are children in the Pike County area who are sick and need a bright spot in their lives, the kind that the “Make a Wish Foundation” provides.

“That’s what make fundraisers like this so worthwhile,” Harrell said. “It touches everybody’s heart to be able to help a child and donations are one way that we can all help. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to take a child’s mind off what is so terrible in their lives for just a little while and give them and their families memories that will last a lifetime.”

The Terra Cotta Fall and Holiday Open House features a Chef Bryant Smith hot-off-the-Green Egg lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs with the $5 donation. Children will eat free and will have a vareity of activities to chose from while their parents enjoy a time of browsing.

Children’s activities include train rides, Go Fishing, face painting and games of kid- friendly competition.

“We’ll have lots of door prizes to be given away in drawings and speicals throughout the open house,” Harrell said. The fun of the announced specials is that customers won’t know what will be on special and for how long.

“The specials will change throughout the day so it will be exciting to see what good stuff is on special next,” Harrell said.

Because the open house is a fall and holiday event, there will be a variety of Christmas items on display.

“We invite everyone to come out, bring the children or grandchildren and enjoy the day with us and support the Make a Wish Foundation in a fun way,” Harrell said.
