The City of Brundidge continues to find ways to better serve its citizens.

In June, the city purchased through a tax sale the building on South Main Street that housed Dr. LaDon Golden’s family practice clinic for many years.

City officials discussed several use options for the building and decided the best use would be as a satellite facility for the Pike County Courthouse.

Brundidge Mayor Jimmy Ramage said that such a venture was considered several years ago when the city purchased a building on old Business U.S. 231 north.

“But, at that time, OCAP was looking for a new location for its Head Start program,” Ramage said. “The building was ideal for that purpose, and it was in a good location. So, the city worked it out with OCAP and put our plans for a mini-courthouse on the back burner for a while.”

With the purchase of the former doctor’s building, the city had another opportunity to provide satellite office space for several agencies housed at the Pike County Courthouse.

Linda Faust, Brundidge city administrative assistant, said the city purchased the former doctor’s building for about $21,000. The building has been re-roofed and the parking lot resurfaced to make it “courthouse” ready.

“Several governmental agencies were meeting at Brundidge Station, which is home to the city’s nutrition and senior programs,” Faust said.

“Having a place for the revenue commissioner, probate judge and OCAP to conduct business here in Brundidge has been much more convenient for our residents. However, the nutrition center is a busy place with people coming and going. It can be rather noisy and distracting to those who are there to do business.”

That was behind the city’s decision to move the revenue commissioner’s and the probate judge’s offices and OCAP to the facility on South Main Street, Faust said.

The Pike County Revenue Commission conducts business at the “mini-courthouse” on Tuesdays, October through December. The Probate Judge’s office renews tags at the facility on the third Tuesday of the month, except December, and OCAP is on site every Wednesday. The hours of operation for all three agencies are from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Ramage said plans are to have other agencies locate satellite offices in Brundidge.

“We want to provide opportunities for our citizens to take care of as many businesses needs as possible right here at home,” Ramage said.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce has a satellite office at the Johnston Mill on Church Street in downtown Brundidge. Chamber officials are in Brundidge every Wednesday. The Chamber satellite office is provided by the Brundidge Historical Society.
