The Goshen Eagles had a confident week of practice despite losing their opening game of the season last Friday night.

The Eagles entered the season with a lot of new faces and inexperience on both sides of the ball. They went up against a Trinity team playing their third game of the season. Despite the lopsided score, the Eagles left the field with confidence.

“Being able to spend all that time practicing was much needed, but there is nothing like having that opportunity to have a game week,” head coach Bart Snyder said. “The guys were excited. Trinity is a very good ball team with a lot of experience. As the game went on confidence gained a little bit. We witnessed it this week in practice by some of our younger guys.”

Snyder believes the youngers guys built up confidence in the game last Friday and their not as timid as they might have been leading up to their game against Trinity. Game experience and confidence was the biggest thing the Eagles got out of last Friday night’s game.

“We are the one of the smallest teams in 3A,” Snyder said. “These teams we are playing our big and come from large towns. Its just part of it. We just have to get better at what we do.”

The Eagles are relying on their veterans to be leaders this season. One leader, Jeff Warrick, had a big night last Friday night, finishing with 95 receiving yards and 35 yards rushing. On defense, Warrick had a total of eight tackles.

“He is one that has had a good bit of experience,” Snyder said. “He played a lot for us last year.”

Other players the Eagles are relying on include Hunter Shaver, Antonio Freeman, Will Snyder and Bryce Williams.

The Eagles will make their first lengthy road trip of the season. They will make the two and a half hour trip north to take on Childersburg.

“It’s definitely something different,” Snyder said. “It’s something your not accustomed two in the regular season. We are traveling a little over two and a half hours and that means you can’t eat at school, if you did it would be too early.f You have to do a lot of things different.”

Childersburg comes into Friday night’s game 0-2. They fell to B.B. Comer in their season opener before falling last week 28-8 against Reeltown. It will be Childersburg’s first home game of the season.

“Coach Johnson is doing a good job with them,” Snyder said. “It’s his first year coaching. You can see a lot of change with them from last year to this year. This is new to us. We don’t know a whole lot about playing these teams. They are very big. They have a lot of players and they are well coached.”
