Charles Henderson High School and a grocery supplier are teaming up to get groceries to people in Pike County.

In a way to eliminate the need to visit crowded grocery stores, people can order their groceries through Charles Henderson High School in a fundraiser for the athletic department.

“We’ve been brainstorming, trying to figure out a fundraiser that we can do,” CHHS Athletic Director and head football coach Brad McCoy said. “We thought, ‘what if we had groceries delivered to the school so families could come and pick up their items.’ It could be an item that maybe grocery stores didn’t have. People also wouldn’t have to battle a bunch of people.”

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the entire athletic department. Each participant will be able to select which team they would like to help out.

“As the orders come in we are going to have the parents say who they are representing,” McCoy said. “It’s for all sports, the entire athletic department at Charles Henderson. Mrs. (Lise) Faison would be organizing the way the funds will be distributed according to which sport is being represented.”

Items that are available to be purchased include: toilet paper, paper towels, facemasks, surface sanitizer spray, all purpose orange cleaner and much more. There is also plenty food options including hot dogs, hamburger patties, spaghetti, Salisbury steak and macaroni and cheese.

“It’s restaurant quality food,” McCoy said. “There is a variety of items ranging from frozen to fresh foods to chemicals like sanitizing liquids and facemasks. what people are needing during this time is being offered on top of the food items.”

The final day to place orders will be May 9. People can pick up their groceries behind the Charles Henderson cafeteria on May 20. People can get an ordering form by visiting www.Troyschools.net. Pre-orders must be sent to coach McCoy at mccoyb@troyschools.net. Checks made out to CHHS can be dropped off at the school office. Cash is also accepted.

“We appreciate the support and we would love to have everyone involved,” McCoy said.
