The Pike County Bulldogs played about as efficiently as a team can Friday night in a dominating 60-0 victory against the Slocomb Red Tops.

Head coach Fred Holland had emphasized the need for his team to come out prepared after winning two tight games on the road in recent weeks.

“It’s been tough for us coming off of big games and coming back into focus,” Holland said. “But we had a good week of practice and it showed tonight. I’m really proud of how our players and coaches prepared for this game.”

It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to get on the board. Just 60 seconds and three plays after receiving the opening kickoff, running back Rayshawn Reynolds reached the end zone on a 20-yard touchdown run.

Slocomb pushed back on their opening drive, going the length of the field and running five and a half minutes off the clock before ultimately turning the ball over on downs. Two plays later though, Derrick Myhand broke free, making several nifty moves to score the ball from 80 yards out, giving the Bulldogs a 15-0 advantage.

Darrick Myhand, was the next to score on a three-yard run, after Derrick Myhand helped drive the team down the field on multiple carries.

As the clock wore down in the second half, the Red Tops finally found some success again offensively, driving down to the Pike County 30-yard-line with just 43 seconds on the clock.

The Bulldogs called a timeout with hopes to get the ball back with enough time to score, and an interception by Rayshawn Reynolds set the Bulldogs up for just such an opportunity, as he returned it 50 yards to midfield.

The Bulldogs needed only one play to score, with quarterback Daquavious Coleman tossing the ball up for receiver Zerathan Caffie, who made a contested catch before running the rest of the way into the end zone to give Pike County a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs came out just as efficiently in the second half as the first, scoring three touchdowns on just five plays.

The scoring began after the Bulldogs held the Red Tops to a three-and-out to start the half.

Darrick Myhand took the first offensive play of the half 50 yards to the 2-yard-line before punching in the touchdown.

After another Slocomb three-and-out, the Bulldogs started out at the Red Tops 37-yard-line and Coleman found Darrick Myhand through the air this time for a score on the only play of the drive.

Then the Red Tops muffed the kick, giving Pike County the ball back at the Slocomb 29. Reynolds carried the ball for 15 yards before Darrick Myhand finished yet another drive with a 14-yard touchdown run.

The Bulldogs had run away with the score, gaining a 47-0 lead only halfway through the third quarter.

Coleman and Zakevin Pennington both added rushing touchdowns to finish out the game.

The Bulldogs host Monroe next Friday for homecoming.
