The deadline for entry in the 2020 Pet Photo Contest was midnight Saturday. The contest closed with 92 entries so it’s all over now except for the voting.

The voting for the annual fundraising event for the Humane Society of Pike County will continue until 5 p.m. on September 1.

Donna Brockmann, HSPC president, said she is extremely pleased with the number of entries in the 2020 Pet Photo Contest and is looking forward to a highly contested, but friendly contest.

“No matter which pet is the cover pet for the 2020 Pet Photo Contest, all Pike County is the winner because the funds raised through the photo contest and calendar sales support the HSPC’s spay/neuter and feral cat programs,” Brockmann said. “The programs greatly reduced the number of unwanted, abandoned, abused and neglected animals in Pike County.”

Brockmann said the contest closed with Joette Booker’s Maggie in the lead. Nipping at the dog’s heels is Kenny and Elaine Pinckard’s cat, Brandy Grace.

There’s a three-way tie for third place that includes a dog, a cat and two goslings.

Jo Ann Echols’ Cali, a previous pet calendar girl, Breanna Barron’s Rocky, and Dr. Pat Block’s goslings are being nudged by Kaylin Gibson’s Peaches, Jessie and Piper. The trio of pups is only one vote out of third place.
“The votes will change many, many times over the next few weeks,” Brockmann said. “And, there will be a flurry of votes on the final day of the contest. It will be exciting as the competition heats up for, not just the calendar cover, but for the 13 monthly recognitions.”

Fifty-two pets will be the featured weekly pets and all entries will be pictured on the calendar.

Brockmann said photos of all pets in the 2020 Pet Photo Contest will be posted on the window of Three Notch Antiques on the square in downtown Troy.
“Votes may be cast at Three North Antiques,” Brockmann said. “Those who don’t have a specific pet to support will certainly be able to select one from all the cute pets entered.”

Votes may also be cast at Guynn’s Income Tax and Bookkeeping Services, Jinright’s Hillside Antiques, The Little Framery and Three Notch Antiques.
