The Alabama High School Coaches Association’s All-Star Event is held at Troy University’s Riddle-Pace Field and this year’s event will feature two home-grown players.

After two strong seasons, Pike Liberal Arts’ Holt Steed and Charles Henderson’s Cole McWhorter will don the cardinal jerseys beginning on June 11. The two players will get instruction from some of the state’s best coaches and have the ability of playing games over the course of the three-day event with and against the best players the state can offer.

Steed, fresh off being named as a member of the All-Area team, helped lead the Patriots to their second straight state championship.

During his season, Steed pitched a total of 52.1 innings and pitched to a 2.14 ERA. He struck out 52 batters, while walking 28 batters.

At the plate, Steed had 29 plate appearances. He finished with nine hits including two doubles.

With the Patriots one loss away from elimination in the championship series, Steed pitched a complete game in game two to help lead the Patriots into the third and deciding game.

In his first season with the Trojans, McWhorter finished with a .333 batting average with three home runs and 40 doubles. He also accumulated seven doubles.

“Cole has been a huge asset to our team this year,” said Trojan head coach Matt Whitton. “He is a true leader for our team behind the plate. He came in and worked into his role for us this year and was a big help for us offensively and defensively.”

Steed and McWhorter will join team Cardinal, one of six teams in the event. Each team will have plenty of time to practice in front of coaches and scouts during the three-day event.

Each team will play a total of three games over the course of the two days. Each game will consist of six innings and each player is guaranteed to get two at-bats during the game.
