Flying high: Goshen honors their athletes

The Troy Recreation Center played host to the Goshen High School All Sports Banquet on Monday evening in Troy.
It was a night of food, fellowship and recognition at the recreation center as the Goshen Eagles put a close on another sports year.
Student athletes that participated in football, baseball, basketball, track and field, cross country, swimming, volleyball, soccer, softball and cheerleading were all brought in front to be acknowledged in front of a full recreation center.
The Goshen Eagle football team finished the 2018 regular season with a 4-7 record and finished in fourth place in the Class 2A Region 3 standings. They advanced to the postseason for the 11th consecutive season.
Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams advanced to the postseason in their 2018-2019 seasons. In his first season as head coach of the Eagles’ boys’ basketball team, Daniell Powell led the Eagles to their fourth consecutive area championship. Head coach Fred Lowery led the girls’ basketball team to an appearance in the area championship. They also advanced to the Class 2A Sub-Regional Tournament.
The Eagle track team sent a total of five athletes to the state track meet this season. D’aveyon Cowart, Trentavious Ware, Ja’Raye Blair, Alexia Tillery and Tessa Suell all represented the Goshen Eagles at the state Track and Field meet.
The Eagle swim team sent two swimmers to the state swim meet in late November in Auburn. Bryce Tatum and Addi Bruner made the state finals in their given competitions. Tatum competed in the 200-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle, while Bruner competed in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100-meter breaststroke. Dallas Daughtry advanced to the sectional finals in Mobile.
The Lady Eagle volleyball team kept to their winning ways in 2018. They advanced to the state tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
The Eagles softball team finished the 2019 season 15-19-2, while the baseball team went 15-11.
