Eagles overcome large deficit in win over Red Level

The Goshen Eagles varsity baseball team overcame a seven-run deficit in the fifth to knock off Red Level 10-9 on Tuesday evening.

The win for the Eagles improves their record on the season to 2-0.

McGwire Stanley got the start for the Eagles on Tuesday night. Blake Saupe followed Stanley on the mound and threw two innings. Caleb Gamble threw three innings and Logan Boyce nailed down the save for the Eagles in the seventh.

The Eagles finished with nine hits led by Bryan Galloway who went 3-5 with a double. Jayvan Williams and Stanley both finished with two hits, while Gamble and Jeff Warrick each had one hit.

The Eagles fell behind 3-0 early after Red Level scored three runs in the top of the first inning. The Eagles answered in the bottom half of the inning when Galloway reached base on a single and came around to score two batters later.

Red Level answered with three more runs in the second, followed by single runs in both the third and fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the tide began to turn. The Eagles scored three runs on two hits by Galloway and Williams to cut their deficit down to four runs at 8-4.

Walks and hits played a factor for the Eagles in the sixth inning. Galloway hit a double and Williams hit a single in the inning.

The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to take on Highland Home beginning at 4:30 p.m.
