The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots took home third place in the Northside Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. After finishing day one of the tournament 1-1, the Patriots knocked off both Pataula and Wiregrass to take home third place.

“We played four games in two days and it was a lot of fun,” said head coach Torie Peters. “We played some real aggressive teams and it was nice to see teams that aren’t normally on our schedule. It was a good change for the girls. We had great attitudes and we worked hard.”

The busy schedule provided Peters an opportunity to play her bench and have them get some quality experience.

“We got everybody in,” Peters said. “We dressed out about eight JV players and they all played a good amount of time which was nice. It was good to see where we are and what we need to work on.”

Shelby Renfroe led the Patriots in scoring in game one with 11 points, while Tiffany Johnson added nine and Tanna Singleton had seven.

Ansley Adams had the hot hand in game two and led the Patriots with 10 points. Johnson had nine, while Renfroe added eight points.

The Patriots host Success Unlimited for their home opener on Monday and they hope they can carry over some momentum.

“It’s nice to come off some wins,” Peters said. “We lost one game in this tournament. I think there is so much good that can come out of it. We are playing better than we have played in a long time. We are playing aggressive. We have a big game against Success at home. They are going to be an aggressive team. Coming out of this tournament we have the momentum in our favor and I think the best is still to come for Pike.”
