The Troy AAA Rookie team received stellar pitching all night Monday and improved their record in the Dixie AAA Rookie District 9 Tournament in Eufaula to 2-1 as they defeated Enterprise 7-0.

Monday’s game between the two teams was a rematch of a round 1 meeting, a game that saw Enterprise get the best of Troy with the Rookies making routine fielding errors among other mistakes.

Enterprise defeated Troy 10-9 in the team’s first match up, but Monday night’s match up brought better news for the Rookies. This was the third time overall these two teams met having faced off in the District Warm-up Tournament two weeks prior.

Rookie head coach Chris Goseha said John Lott pitching had really set the tone for the Rookie’s night with Lott pitching a compllete game and shuout for the Rookies.

“He pitched a masterful game for us,” Goshea said. “He never really got into trouble.”

Lott finished the game with eight strikeouts. Lott’s only glimps at trouble Monday night as the young starter had two Enterprise runners occuping bases in the sixth innig.

The defense also prevailed Monday night, Goshea said as he praised Rookie catcher David Kilcrease for an outstanding performance behind the plate. During the course of the game, Kilcrease racked up four thrown out runners.

Goshea said in large part, he felt the seven runs that Troy put up Monday night was thanks to aggressive, but good, base running from his team.

Goshea said players like Colby Taylor, Mario DAvenport adn Malachi Cooper’s running game had kept Enterprise on their toes throughout the contest.

Troy stole home an astounding three times on wild pitches from Enterprise.

With their win over Enterprise, Goshea and the Rookies advanced to play Greenville tonight for a shot at the championship title. Goshea said the Rookies were going into the game with the mindset that if it wasn’t, they weren’t going to fix it come time to face Greenville.

“We are not going to do anything different,” Goshea said. “We are going to come here ready to compete and put our best foot forward.”

While the game is away, Goshea said he is hoping for a greater fan turnout for the match up agianst Greenville.

“I am urging people, that are not already supporting a Troy team, to come out and cheer, and give us their support,” Goshea said.

After Troy fell in round one of the tournament to the same Nationals team 10-9, the Rookies were able to secure a win Saturday against Eufaula beating the team 16-1.

The Rookies scored seven runs in the first inning to set the tone early, and Kilcreas stepped from behind the plate and took to the mound pitching the first two innings for Troy. Kilcrease accumalated four strikeouts during his time on the mound.

Trevon Brown led the way offensively finishes the game going two for three at the plate with a two-run homerun in the first inning.

Troy will face off against Greenville tongiht with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
