The April Walking Tours in Pike County will continue Saturday with walks in Brundidge and Troy.

Brundidge historian John Phillip Johnston will lead the April Walking Tour in downtown Brundidge beginning at 1 p.m. at studio 116 on South Main Street. The tour is free and open to the public.

Johnston said the walking tour will actually begin inside studio 116 with a brief sketch of the history of the town with special attention to what the town was like 100 years ago.

“I will have an advertisement to talk about from a store that was in operation right before the Civil War,” he said. “I think people will be interested to know what was being sold and for how much prior to that war.

“After we talk a little about the history of Brundidge, we’ll walk the streets and stop at the stores that I know the most about and those who ran them.”

Anyone who has photographs of historic Brundidge they would like to share is encouraged to do so. Following the walk, light refreshments will be served at studio 116. Those who participated in the walk will be invited to stay for a time of fellowship.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce will continue its April Walking Tour at 10 a.m. Saturday beginning on the square in downtown Troy. This will be the second of four walks schedule in conjunction with the April Walking Tours program sponsored by the Alabama Department of Tourism.

Kathy Sauer, Chamber president, said Saturday’s tour will be of College Street, which is listed on both the Alabama and National registers of historic landmarks. College Street is lined with homes of architectural and historical significance.

The Chamber’s April Walking Tour will continue on April 19 with a tour of the Troy commercial district and on April 26 again on College Street.

The Troy walking tours are also free and open to the public.
