The Brundidge City Council moved forward at its Tuesday meeting with a grant application that would provide 80 percent of the funding to build sidewalks along S.A. Graham Boulevard and Galloway Road.

The Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternative Program grant could provide funds to build a sidewalk along S.A. Graham Boulevard along the existing sidewalk to the Chevron station on U.S. Highway 231, and on the north side of Galloway Road to just beyond the Housing Authority subdivision. The paving project would include ramps and crosswalks.

The grant requires an 80/20 percent match and the city’s 20 percent would come from gas tax, which is readily available money. The cost of the project has not been determined.

City council members also looked at slides of 20 structures designated for the city’s upcoming Community Development Block Grant demolition project. Three of the structures on the list have already been removed and one currently has a resident living in it.

City Manager Britt Thomas said additional demolition might be in order now that those four properties have been removed from the project list. The cost of the original project was projected to be $44,000.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council approved to give $4,263 to the Summer Feeding Program so that it can include three, four and five year olds. The city is partnering with OCAP and the Pike County Board of Education for the program. The BOE is providing additional classroom space for the added children. Currently, there are 120 children enrolled in the Summer Feeding Program.
