There was more trash talk at the Pike County Commission meeting Monday night.

Ronnie White with Advanced Disposal was present to talk more about the company’s plan to stop picking up trash for those who are behind on payments.

“Most of these people are in years of not paying, it’s not just a month or two,” White said.

More than 800 people in Pike County are delinquent in their payments and Advanced Disposal is working to remedy the situation.

White explained that the company has stopped picking up trash for some residents in the hopes that they will call customer service to begin a conversation. White said one man he spoke with had not paid his bill in nine years.

When customers call in, Advanced Disposal is going back to collect one quarter’s worth of payments and then resuming trash pick up.

“This is something we are trying to fix,” White noted, adding that he would need help with enforcement from the county.

The Pike County Commission also heard from Lant Dubose with TRANE Building Services about a program that could overhaul and upgrade all county-owned buildings as part of “performance contracting” that would be a budget neutral move.

Dubose estimated that an overhaul could save the county about $51,000 in energy costs each year, which would pay for the $500,000 project debt. The county will consider the proposal.

Moving forward with future road improvements, the commission voted to pay for already-approved Community Development Block Grant projects with half of the trust fund money recently given to the county and to submit county roads 4442, 1135, 1170 and 2241 in hopes of ATRIP approval.

Also at the meeting, it was proclaimed that May is Community Action Month and that Raymond Stroud would be appointed as a new Department of Human Resources board member.

The next meeting of the commission will be on June 10 due to the Memorial Day holiday.
