Eighty percent of all homes have a jar of peanut butter in the cupboard. So, get out a jar, creamy or crunchy, and fix your favorite peanut butter recipe for entry in the annual Peanut Butter Recipe Contest.

The Peanut Butter Recipe Contest is a highlight of the annual Peanut Butter Festival in Brundidge the last Saturday in October.

The contest is held in conjunction with the Peanut Butter Festival in Brundidge and is sponsored by the Brundidge Study Club.

The annual contest is open to ages nine and over in Pike and surrounding peanut producing counties.

“There are five categories of entry – candy, cookies, cakes, pies and other. “Other” means anything from peanut butter soups to peanut butter dog bones,” said Tammy Powell, Club member. “Each category will have three divisions – youth, ages 9-18, adult and professional.”

Powell said each entry must include a readable copy of the recipe with the category of the recipe written on the top right hand corner.

“On the reverse side of the recipe, please include the cook’s name, mailing address and phone number,” she said. “If you are a youth, include the school, grade, homeroom teacher and age.”

Entries should be submitted to the Peanut Butter Recipe Contest at Brundidge Station in downtown Brundidge, across from the post office, no later than 9 a.m. on Peanut Butter Festival day, Saturday, Oct. 27.

“Each prepared recipe should be submitted on a disposable dish or container, which will not be returned,” Powell said. “All dishes will be submitted to a panel of judges and will be judged on taste, appearance and uniqueness. The winners in each category will be awarded a prize.”

Following the judging, the entries will be packaged and sold as samples to the public. The samples will be sold on the Peanut Butter Festival grounds beginning around noon.
