A man who was arrested and sentenced in Pike County is back in jail after escaping from the Mobile County Work Center on Wednesday.

Dallas Morgan had been in prison since March and was serving a 10-year sentence for manufacturing drugs, according to Pike County court records.

Alabama Department of Corrections spokesman Brian Corbett said Morgan and another inmate, James Ledford, were recaptured by Mobile County authorities on Thursday in West Mobile at the intersection of McFarland Road and Valley Court.

Both inmates are being held in the Mobile County Metro Jail.

Ledford and Morgan were reported missing after they were unaccounted for during a facility bed check about 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

Pike County court records show that Morgan had been arrested for unlawful manufacturing on Oct. 5, 2009, and possession of marijuana second-degree on May 7, 2009. His probation was revoked in March 2012.

In a May 2009 article published in The Messenger, Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said deputies had been notified of an alleged methamphetamine lab at 4900 Highway 87 in Spring Hill.

Lawmen found three children inside the home, as well as several other people.

Dallas Morgan, who was 21 at the time, fled from the scene in his vehicle. He was apprehended a short time later and received the marijuana second-degree charge.

Morgan is from Ozark.
