A woman charged with stealing from her former employer and a man charged with attempted murder both went before a judge this week.

Sherry Mae Gosha, of Troy, appeared a preliminary hearing on charges that she stole money from Cashland in Troy, her former employer. Gosha was arrested on April 5 for first-degree theft of property. She is accused of taking $8,615.93 from the short-term loan company between September 2011 and March 2012.

During Tuesday’s hearing, a law enforcement officer testified that Gosha re-opened 19 paid accounts and took money from those accounts. No new contracts or checks were involved in reopening the accounts, which is common practice for legitimate reopenings, the officer said.

Gosha was the only employee of Cashland in Troy at the time of the theft, according to the officer.

Gosha has maintained her innocence. She could appear before a grand jury in late July.

Charles Williams, who has been arrested multiple times for running illegal shot houses in Troy and other parts of Pike County, also appeared in court on Tuesday.

Williams was before Judge William Hightower to request a bond reduction in an attempted murder charge stemming from an April 17, 2011, incident.

Williams is accused of shooting Damiel Alexander Johnson, of Clayton, once in the backside and once in the chest outside an establishment known as the Obama Club which was located on North Three Notch Street in Troy.

Williams was in possession of a .32-caliber revolver when police arrived and three of the six rounds in the gun had been fired, according to police.

Williams has said that he was protecting himself and other people at the Obama Club by firing the weapon.

Hightower reduced Williams’ bond from $100,000 to $50,000 in the attempted murder case. Williams also has two pending court cases where he is accused of selling alcohol without a license.
