The Southwestern Athletic Conference followed other conferences on Monday when they announced fall athletics has been suspended until the spring.
The SWAC joins the Ivy League and other conferences to make the move. The league announced the decision on Monday following a meeting.
Fall sports impacted include men’s and women’s cross country, football, women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.
The league announced that football will resume activities in the spring with an eight-week training period in January. They would then have a seven-week season that would include six conference games with the option to play a non-conference opponent.
Troy was scheduled to take on SWAC member Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the season opener and will now be forced to find other options.
The Trojans along with Arkansas-Pine Bluff play a total of four non-conference games in 2020. The Trojans will also play North Carolina State, UMASS and Tennessee. The Big-10 PAC-12 have already decided to play conference only games in 2020. The Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conferences are still deciding on what to do with their seasons this fall.
The SWAC is a 10-team league that includes Alabama State and Alabama A&M.
