AHSAA announces spring alignment

The Alabama High School Athletic Association Central Board has approved spring sports’ alignment for the upcoming 2020-2021 classification period.

Sports that are affected by the realignment are baseball, softball, boys’ and girls’ soccer and girls’ outdoor track. Boys’ and girls’ tennis and boys’ and girls’ golf were also approved.

“We thank the Central Board for its commitment to fair play, and we also thank the AHSAA executive staff for their many hours of hard work and research,” said AHSAA Executive Director Steve Savarese.

Locally, Goshen high school athletics will see the biggest change. Along with their fall sports, all of Goshen’s spring sports will move to Class 3A.

In baseball and softball, the Eagles will join county rival Pike County in Area 4 along with New Brockton and Opp.

After being in Area 3 a season ago, Charles Henderson will make the move to Area 4 next season along with Greenville and Andalusia.

Both Goshen and Pike County’s track and field teams will be in Class 3A Section 2, while Charles Henderson will be in Class 5A Section 1.

Charles Henderson tennis will be in Class 5A section two, while the golf team will be in section 1.

Pike County and Goshen soccer will participate in Class 3A Region 2, while Charles Henderson will compete in Class 5A Area 3.

Zion Chapel and Ariton will compete in Class 2A Area 3 in both baseball and softball next season.
