Patriots begin Border Wars 2-0

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots began day one of the Border Wars Tournament in Penix City on Friday afternoon.

They began the day with a 5-3 win over Calvary Christian in game one. They took on Autauga Academy in game two Friday evening.

The Patriots scored four first inning runs and held on for a narrow win.

Drew Nelson and Walker Stallworth got on the mound for the Patriots. Nelson pitched the first two innings and allowed three runs on three hits and five walks. He struck out two batters.

Stallworth came in and pitched the final three innings. He allowed four hits and struck out four batters.

Nelson and Mayes White began the game with back-to-back walks. They both came around to score on a single by Jayden Jordan. Jordan later came around to score on an error before the Patriots scored the final run of the inning on a Stallworth RBI single.

Calvary Christian answered with a run in the first and two more in the second to cut the Patriots’ lead to one at 4-3.

The Patriots picked up an insurance run in the fifth on a Skylar Kidd single.

Jordan finished the game 2-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Davis Allen, Press Jefcoat, Stallworth and Kidd all had one hit for the Patriots.

The Patriots once against took advantage of a big inning when they knocked off Autauga Academy 12-4 in game two.

The Patriots scored five runs in the first and three more in the third to pull away from the Generals.

Press Jefcoat, Levi Sikes and J.D. Wilson all pitched for the Patriots in game two. Jefcoat pitched the first 3 innings, while Sikes and Wilson both pitched an inning.

The Patriots finished with 14 hits in the win.

Sikes, Stallworth and Jefcoat all finished with two hits to lead the way for the Patriots.

The Patriots will resume play in the Border Wars Tournament on Saturday when they take on the Heritage School beginning at 9 a.m. The seeded games will begin at 1 p.m.
