Pike finishes play in Jonah McWaters Tournament

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots hosted the annual Jonah McWaters Tournament on Friday and Saturday in Troy.

The Patriot baseball team wrapped up the weekend with a tournament championship. The Patriot softball team wrapped up second place.

After Javon Christian’s no-hitter buoyed the Patriots to a game one win over Abbeville Christian on Friday afternoon, the Patriots picked up two-straight wins over Autauga Academy to claim the championship.

The Patriots entered the sixth inning of the championship game in a 1-1 tie with Autauga Academy. A five-run sixth inning pushed the Patriots to the win.

Drew Nelson and Levi Sikes got on the mound for the Patriots. Nelson pitched three shutout innings and Sikes let up one unearned run in his two-inning outing. Both pitchers had six strikeouts.

Press Jefcoat hit a two-run single in the sixth to give the Patriots the lead. The Patriots had one run score on a dropped third strike, while another came in to score on an error.

The Patriots also had a bases loaded walk.

Davis Allen finished 2-4 to lead the Patriots.

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots advanced to the championship game against Macon-East on Saturday evening. The Lady Patriots went 1-1 on day one and played four games on Saturday.

The Patriots began Saturday with a 9-3 win over Coosa Valley. In game two the Patriots picked up a walk-off win over Springwood. The Patriots entered the bottom of the final trailing by one run. Grace Rushing smacked a two-run single, lifting the Patriots to the win. Ally Rushing got the start in the game and pitched four innings, while giving up four unearned runs.

Dannah Dawson entered the pitching circle in the Patriots’ win over Abbeville Christian and helped lift them to the tournament championship game. Dawson allowed two hits and struck out nine batters in the win. Emily Dean finished 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI, while Ally Rushing finished the game 2-2 with a run scored. Avery Henderson and Aubreigh Maulden each had two RBI.

Grace Rushing and Dean each had an RBI in the championship game, but the Patriots fell to the Knights 7-2.
