One big inning propelled the Lakeside Chiefs to an 8-2 win over the Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots on Thursday night in Troy.
The Patriots entered the final inning trailing by two a 3-1. The Chiefs loaded the bases and by inning’s end scored five runs to put the game out of reach.
Dannah Dawson got the start for the Patriots and pitched the game’s first five innings before giving way to Ally Rushing. Aubreigh Maulden also pitched for the Patriots on Thursday.
Trailing 3-0, the Lady Patriots got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ally Rushing smacked a double and came around to score on a triple to right by Avery Henderson.
With the Chiefs leading 8-1 heading into the last of the seventh, the Patriots got their final run on a sacrifice fly by Henderson.
The Lady Patriots picked up eight hits in the loss. Ally Rushing finished with three hits, while Emily Dean had two. Grace Rushing, Ansley Adams and Henderson each had one.
