Patriots split with Hooper in season opening doubleheader

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots opened their season with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against the Hooper Colts.

The Patriots shutout the Colts in game one 6-0 before falling 8-5 in extra innings in game two.

Ally Rushing got the start for the Lady Patriots in game one and earned the win after she completed five shutout innings. She struck out five batters, while walking two. Aubreigh Maulden entered the game in the sixth inning and pitched two shutout innings.

Dannah Dawson got the Patriots on the board in the second inning on a two-run single that allowed both Sarah Elizabeth Calhoun and Ansley Adams to score.

The Patriots picked up four runs in the fourth to pull away from the Colts. Adams began the scoring with a single to left that allowed Grace Rushing to score. The Patriots had back-to-back doubles by Emily Dean and Ally Rushing to go up 6-0.

Grace Rushing and Calhoun each picked up two hits in the Patriots win. Ally Rushing, Maulden, Adams, Dean and Dawson each had one hit.

The Patriots travel to take on Lee-Scott on Wednesday afternoon.
