The Pike County Bulldogs knocked of Pike Road 77-73 in overtime on Saturday evening to claim a spot in Wednesday’s Class 3A Regional Final in Montgomery.
After going into overtime tied at 62, Pike County outscored the Patriots 15-11 in the extra session.
“We knew it wouldn’t be easy as they were here last year while we missed it,” Pike County coach Doug Holland said. “We watched a lot of film on them and we saw they played hard, so we didn’t expect it to be easy. That is why we played a tough schedule to get to this point to play someone like them.”
Senior Andres Burney led the way with 28 points, 16 rebounds and four blocked shots. He scored five of his points in overtime.
“Last year we didn’t get to this point, but all the hard work and dedication helped us get here and win this game,” Burney said.
Burney scored 11 of his points in the first half and the Bulldogs went into halftime leading 43-29.
The Patriots outscored the bulldogs 21-14 in the third quarter and climbed back into game heading into the fourth quarter leading by three at 50-47.
Burney scored eight fourth quarter points and the Bulldogs crawled back to force overtime.
Omar Cumberbatch finished with 13 points and five rebounds and Jordan Hobdy had 10 points and four assists.
The Bulldogs will take on Dadeville on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 2:30 at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery.
