Lady Patriots heading to the Final Four

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots had a chance to join the varsity boys basketball team in the Final Four when they took on Morgan Academy on Wednesday evening in the AISA Class 3A Elite 8.

The Patriots gained an early advantage and rode it to a 40-26 win.

The Lady Patriots will now take on Glenwood on Friday morning for a chance to play in the AISA State Championship on Saturday.

It was a low scoring first half for both teams on Wednesday. The Patriots finally got the offense started at the free throw line and thanks to some success from behind the arc; the Lady Patriots took an 18-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Lady Patriots outscored the Senators 15-8 in the third quarter and went into the fourth leading 33-16.

The Senators went on an 8-2 run to pull to within 11 at 35-24, but the Patriots closed it out with a 5-2 run.

Shelby Renfroe led the Patriots with 12 points, while Lakin Harrell finished with 11. Sara Todd Floyd finished with eight points and Tiffany Johnson had five. Ansley Adams and Avery Henderson each had two.

The Patriots will take on the Gators beginning at 10 a.m.
