The Troy Trojans will begin the 2020 baseball season on Friday night with a trio of starting outfielders.

The Trojan infield may be returning their key players up the middle in 2020, but the most experienced group will be roaming the outfield.

Defending batting champion Rigsby Mosley will return in left, while senior Dalton Sinquefield will man right field. Sandwiched in between them will be sophomore centerfielder Logan Cerny.

“We have three outfielder’s back,” head coach Mark Smartt said. “Our outfield defense I think can be as good as it’s ever been. We have three really good athletes that can run in the outfield.”

Both Cerny and Mosley are coming off strong years and they both received accolades during the offseason.

Cerny played in 55 games and started 54 of them. He hit .267 with 12 doubles, four triples and 42 RBI. He finished with nine home runs, the most by a freshman since 1997. He was named to Diamond’s Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team.

Mosely finished the season with a league leading .356 batting average. He led the team with a sluggling percentage of .554. He was named to the All-Sun Belt Second Team. He enters the season on the Preseason All-Sun Belt team.

Sinquefield finished the season with a .307 batting average. He had four home runs and 38 RBI.

With the Trojans returning all three players to the outfield, Mosley believes it will give his team an added advantage.

“I think it’s huge to have a lot of experience in the outfield,” Mosley said. “It helps, even in the lineup.”

Despite leading the league in hitting last season, Mosley wants to get on base even more this season and put his legs in motion and increase his stolen base totals from last season.

“I’m trying to steal more bases,” Mosley said. “Maybe get on base more and be the top of the lineup guy like I was last year. I led off last year and I want to do the same this year and help the team out.”

The Trojans will begin the season on Friday when they take on Northern Kentucky beginning at 6 p.m. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon before concluding the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
