Pennington and the Bulldogs outlast Houston Academy

The Pike County Bulldogs bounced back from their close loss to Eufaula with an important area win over Houston Academy 43-27 on Tuesday evening.
The win for the Bulldogs keeps them undefeated in area play. They find themselves in first place in Class 3A Area 4 with a 5-0 record.
The Bulldogs have just one area game left against Providence Christian on Friday night.
The Bulldogs are 14-4 overall.
On Tuesday, the Bulldogs jumped out to a double-digit lead in the opening quarter. Andres Burney put up six first-quarter points, and along with Zakevin Pennington’s five points, the Bulldogs went into the second quarter holding a 15-5 lead.
The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 11 going into halftime after Amaghie Lampley put up five points in the second quarter. The Bulldogs led 27-16 heading into halftime.
Pennington and the Bulldogs came out in the third quarter and outscored Houston Academy 12-4. Pennington scored four third-quarter points and the Bulldogs went into the fourth leading 39-21.
The Bulldogs scored just four fourth-quarter points, but it was more than enough in their 16-point win over their area foe.
Seven of the eight Bulldog players got on the scoreboard on Tuesday. Pennington led the way with 11 points. Andres Burney also finished in double figures with 10 points. Jordan Hobdy finished with eight points, while Lampley finished with six. Bendarius Myhand and Omar Cumberbatch finished with three points, while Johnathan Silar had two points.
The Bulldogs game against Providence Christian is scheduled for approximately 7 p.m.
