Strong third quarter lifts Eagles to win

The Goshen Eagles boy’s basketball team picked up a key area win on Thursday when they knocked off New Brockton 58-41.

Despite starting the season 2-6, the Goshen Eagles have gotten off to an undefeated start in area play, knocking off Samson, Zion Chapel and now New Brockton. With three area games remaining, the Eagles are in prime position to try and host another area tournament.

On Thursday, the Eagles outscored the Gamecocks by 10 points in the third quarter to help preserve the 17-point win.

The Eagles were outscored in the opening quarter 12-11. They outscored the Gamecocks 16-9 in the second quarter and rolled into halftime holding a 27-21 lead.

After a 17-point third quarter, the Eagles stretched their lead to 16 at 44-28. Tre Dix tallied eight points in the third quarter for the Eagles.

The Eagles scored 14 fourth quarter points and half of them came from DeShawne Brown.

The Eagles had seven different players score in the win, four of which finished in double figures led by Randarius Maddox, who finished with 16 points. Brown finished with 13, Makel Avery finished with 12 and Dix had 10.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday when they start the second half of area play at home against Zion Chapel.
