Tyler Sumpter enters name in transfer portal

Troy kicker and punter Tyler Sumpter announced on social media on Wednesday that he plans on entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer.

The junior punter spent the last three season’s as Troy’s primary kicker and punter. According to his statement, Sumpter plans looks forward to seeing what is next as a graduate transfer.

“After much consideration, and after talking it over with my family, I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer,” Sumpter said via his social media post. “Troy has been a great experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”

In his three season’s as a kicker, Sumpter totaled 51 kicks and made 39 of them. His career long was from 50 yards and he did it twice.

As a punter, Sumpter had 156 punts in his Troy career. He averaged 42.2 yards per punt, with a long of 79. He had a total of 11 touchbacks and pinned opponents inside their twenty 46 times.

In 2018, Sumpter earned Second Team All-State honors as a kicker and third team honors as a punter.

He set the Troy single-season punting record by averaging 45.10 yards. He finished the season with three punts that went for over 70 yards. He made 18 of his 24 field goals. He set the Division I record by making 10 field goals in a three-game period. He made all 45 of his extra point attempts.

During his junior year, Sumpter totaled 42 punts and averaged 41.4 yards with four touchbacks. As a field goal kicker, Sumpter made 14 of his 18 kicks with a long of 43 yards.
