Strong second quarter lifts Trojans to win

The Charles Henderson varsity Trojans knocked off Brookwood Academy 61-32 in round one of the 25th annual Hilton Sandestin Beach Blowout on Friday night in Freeport, Florida.

The Trojans entered the tournament along with 15 other schools. The win sends them into round two of the tournament where they will take on the winner of Rowan County (KY) and White Plains on Saturday evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.

After taking a 13-10 lead into the second quarter, the Trojans gained separation heading into halftime leading 35-14 after outscoring Brookwood 22-4 in the second quarter.

The Trojans scored 26 in the second half and kept Brookwood to just 18 points to preserve their 29-point win.

Akevies Shorts led all scorers with 17 points in the round one win. He was one of eight Trojans to score the basketball. Devin Parker finished with nine points, while Keith Wheeler finished with eight points. Tay Knox finished with six.

The Trojans game against the winner of White Plains and Rowan County will take place at Freeport High School.
