Troy knocks off Toledo

The Troy women’s basketball team won the opening game of the 2019 Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic with a 71-64 win over the Toledo Rockets.

The win for the Trojans gives them their fifth consecutive win and they improve their record on the season to 8-2.

The Trojan defense held the Rockets to just 29 percent shooting in the game.

The Trojans had two players score in double figures led by Kayla Robinson who finished with 21 points. Jasmine Robinson finished with 18 points. Japonica James had eight points, while Alexus Dye added seven points. Amber Rivers had six points.

The Trojans held a 39-27 lead going into the locker room at halftime. They led by as many as 17 points in the win

The Trojans will continue play in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic on Friday when they take on Kent State beginning at 2 p.m.
